i-Green Carbon Footprint Offsetting In our daily living we are producing carbon every day. If we drive an 12000Km per year we are producing an average of 1890Kg of carbon per year. If we take a flight from Tokyo to Paris, we are generating 696Kg of carbon. If we are a family of 3 and live in an apartment in New York, we are producing 13,770Kg of carbon annually. The best way to achieve carbon neutrality and mitigate climate change is by changing our lifestyles as individuals and in our business and industry practices so we produce less carbon, but second-best practice is to offset the carbon we produce. This can be done by industrial means or with the nature-based solutions of turning carbon to oxygen. Simply by planting trees in a reforestation or community setting. This is what the CUNCR, Youth Climate Ambassadors YCA do around the world. The tried-and-tested practice of reforestation, afforestation, and restoring mangroves and marshlands, as the nature’s solution, as the best way to offset carbon and help biodiversity. AIR TRAVEL FORMULACUNCR uses the UN-International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO methodology to calculate your CO2 offset. The formula considers the distance between departure and destination airports, the average number of seats based on the aircraft types, average fuel consumption and load factors and whether economy or business class, and if the flight is round trip. Based on these parameters carbon emissions and offsets are calculated.CO2 per passenger = 3.16 * (total fuel*pas-to-freight factor) / (number of seats*pas load factor)HOUSEHOLD FORMULA CUNCR primarily uses the USA Environmental Protection Agency EPA standards and averages for its modeling to calculate your household carbon offset. We further divide the 193 countries of the world to different categories according to their income per capita, based on World Bank data, to measure their impact more realistically on emissions. LAND TRAVEL FORMULA CUNCR uses and adaptation of the USA Environmental Protection Agency EPA to calculate land travel emissions. We further divide the vehicle types to different sizes we also take public transportation, trains and buses into consideration. How precise are these formulas, and what is your impact?Calculating carbon generation because of a human activity is extremely complex. For example, in a flight many variables such as direction of travel, the type of aircraft, the wind factor, the load factor and the class of your travel, all impact the CO2. In offsetting, the species of tree being planted, in what region, the age of tree and the season when measuring is performed, and what is the life expectancy of the tree all affect sequestration calculations. With this complexity, you should consider your contribution as a donation rather than the precise modeling of your footprint. We will continue to improve our formulas and rest assured that your money goes a long way in both CO2 conversion to oxygen, but also your donation also supports the youth in the ground. The YCAs will in turn provide youth employment and training, UN Sustainable Goals SDG awareness, and activism in support of other local youth and indigenous people, to become the future guardians of our planet. Triple win: you go green, the youth benefit, and the planet breaths.About USCUNCR is an independent thinktank focused on the UN in its dealings with the global challenges, promoting the constitutionalization of the UN and of international law, with the aim of legitimizing global governance, including governance of climate, and affirming the global rights of "We the Peoples". The Youth Climate Ambassadors, YCA, inspired by CUNCR, are a network of youth climate activists from different corners of the world acting in unison, planting trees, educating youth, and building a future for a sustainable planet and good global governance of the climate. CUNCR is an international non-profit and contributions in your country may be tax-deductible.
